Finally order in the basement and apartment
Double isn’t always better, and once everything is full, you often can’t remember all your belongings. Then at the latest it will be time to really clean up. Parting with things isn’t always easy – give your possessions a new life and your wallet more content. Regular mucking out becomes a new hobby.

Preparation is half the battle
The idea is there – now it just needs to be put into practice. So that you don’t keep postponing clearing out for convenience, it helps to organize helpers and define a fixed date. So that you are well prepared for this day, there is still a lot to organize and get hold of.
- Make sure that there are always enough rubbish bags and boxes available to separate rubbish, donations and items for sale.
- Organize helpers who will support you and your project and will always be by your side to motivate you.
- Prepare labels and pens to label the remaining boxes.
- Get new boxes for clutter-free storage.
- Get a shelf and brackets for a neater and more organized look.
Step by step to the next intermediate destination
So that your project doesn’t immediately sink into chaos, it makes sense to completely clear out the basement or the room in question first. After it has been cleaned, the mucking out can finally begin. To do this, divide your possessions into four categories:
- Beloved property
- Can be donated
- Is monetized
- Is no longer usable
Since separation, even with the above categorization, is often not easy, we have put together some tips for separating garbage, donations, items for sale and beloved property below.
For each item, ask yourself the following questions:
- What value does this item have for me?
- What is the reason I want to keep it?
- Is it perhaps in better hands with another family member or person?
- What is the likelihood that I will reuse it?
- Is it a supposed collector’s item that I can sell profitably in the future?
- Can I actually monetize it?
- Is it really worth the space he’s taking up?
Any items that are in the Garbage, Donation, and Sale pile after this categorization are no longer worth going back to the basement/room.
In order not to be tempted to save one or the other item from the previously made decision, it is best to put the sorted out possessions out of sight on the same day.
There has to be structure
Can you still remember how you cleaned your room as a child? Just put everything in somewhere – out of sight, out of mind.
This is not exactly how you should start clearing out your basement / room. This is where the previously procured shelves, brackets, boxes and cartons as well as notes and pens come into play.
Now divide all your possessions that you want to keep into further sub-categories such as decoration, household, photo albums, handicrafts, etc… This division makes it easier for you to find the item you urgently need at that time, more quickly.
Now put the possessions, previously organized by topic, into the respective boxes and cartons. To find it again, it is advisable to label it with its content. In order for your action to present a convincing picture when you enter the room, it makes sense to sort the boxes, whether with or without a shelf, according to similar themes.
Tidying up is one thing, keeping order is another
To ensure that actions of this magnitude do not occur again and again in the future, you should ask yourself the questions noted in section two for every item that you want to put in the cellar or closet. If the item fails, it doesn’t even have to make the long journey to the basement.
Do something good for other people and make sure that the content of your wallet grows
Since you have now diligently sorted out, you should now take care of the items that end up in the garbage, various sales portals or collection points for people who need your support. Bring everything that can now finally be thrown away to the nearest collection point. Often you will also find collection containers and storage corners where you can store your well-preserved possessions, which should be given a second life. If this is not available locally, thrift shops and second-hand stores will certainly be grateful for your donation.
Once everything else has been taken care of, you should now take care of the joy-giving part, the money-making sale. Your discarded items can be sold well on sales portals such as Ricardo, Ebay, Shpock and Co. The rule here is: just try it out and see what works better.
Conclusion
Cleaning up itself is often not the problem at all, in many cases our convenience simply wins. So that it doesn’t get that far the next time, you should now ask yourself what its value is for every object you want to put away. Because only when this question ends with a positive answer is it worth the trip to the basement / the room.
Have fun tidying up!
