Sustainable living – avoid plastic in the home

Plastic is omnipresent and accompanies us not only in everyday life but also at work and on our way there. Have you ever paid attention to where they use plastic? This usually starts with the morning teeth cleaning.

Sustainable living – avoid plastic in the home

Let’s make our environment a little less plastic and increasingly use alternative products or those made from recycled plastic. In order to bring exactly these alternative products into your household, we have put together a few everyday helpers made from environmentally friendly materials below.

Sustainable coffee enjoyment – coffee 2 go without plastic cups

The morning coffee 2 go and a plastic-saving lifestyle are probably two things that hardly have a meaningful connection. In most cases, this is exactly what is associated with a cardboard or polystyrene cup with a plastic lid.

But how does coffee 2 go work without plastic and without consumption on site? Quite simply, instead of the usual disposable cup, simply use one of the dozens of reusable cups available on the market. Most of these are already offered by your coffee 2 go provider for purchase.

As an alternative to the reusable cup, you can also use one of the following products:

  • bamboo mug
  • thermal or insulating mug

Tap water instead of mineral water from the bottle

Since Switzerland is one of the few countries that has exceptionally pure tap water, it does not always have to be mineral water from the bottle. Even sparkling water from the tap is possible, simply fill the water bottle and carbonate the water in devices such as the Soda Stream. This not only saves you a lot of money and plastic, you also no longer have to lug heavy plastic bottles home, your back and the environment will thank you.

But if it should be mineral water from the bottle, there are already suppliers who use reusable glass bottles as an alternative to the plastic bottle.

Cooking becomes difficult without kitchen helpers

So that cooking does not become an ordeal, there are of course numerous helpers in the kitchen that are made entirely of natural and sustainable materials. It is advisable to take a closer look here.

For example, there are chopping boards and cooking spoons made of wood for preparing food and bread boxes made of wood, bowls made of glass and plates, bowls and cups made of porcelain for storage and serving.

Furthermore, plastic can also be dispensed with in the following products:

  • Glass, metal or cardboard straw
  • Wooden salad servers
  • Wooden cooking spoons
  • Wooden cutting boards
  • Glass bowls
  • Ice cube trays instead of disposable ice cube bags

Even the storage of food and leftovers is possible without cling film and aluminum foil, simply use one of the following sustainable alternatives:

  • Reusable packaging
  • Canning or mason jars
  • Borosilicate glass bowls

Shopping with cotton bags and jute bags

Surely each of us knows them, the plastic bags in the grocery or clothing store. What used to be completely free now costs us at least 5 centimes. This amount may not be large, but before we ask for a bag at the checkout, it makes us think at least once whether we really need it.

As in all areas of life, there are sustainable, environmentally friendly and, above all, reusable alternatives. These include, for example:

  • Cotton shopping bags
  • Shopping baskets
  • Cardboard boxes from the food delivery
  • Felt bags
  • Reusable carrier bags

Conclusion

Thanks to the constantly growing progress and the progressive environmentally conscious attitude of us humans, there are newer and even better alternatives to plastic every day – just ask and do something good for the environment at the same time.
