Proper storage – how does it work?
Good organization is half the battle, because space is money, even in self-storage! If you don’t want to spend a lot, you should know better how to organize your storage space from the ground up. It is precisely for this reason that it is important that every square meter is used optimally. We explain how to do this in the following tips!

Tip 1: The right packing material!
In addition to closed boxes, moving boxes are particularly suitable for storing books, CDs and various small items. If you intend to stack these, you should make sure that you mainly use closed boxes. A little tip: Double-walled moving boxes and closed plastic crates are particularly suitable for this. Laundry baskets and open boxes are rather unsuitable.
The following applies to fragile items: Always pack them well! It’s better to angle it in with a layer of bubble wrap than to remove broken pieces from the box afterwards.
For anyone who has not yet bought enough packing material, we have stable moving boxes, adhesive tape and protective films available for purchase from our office.
Tip 2: A good plan will make it easier for you to search for missing items!
Anyone can put away wildly, but only those who know in which corner the searched item actually is save time. Whether created by hand or with a suitable app, sketches will not only help you to save time but also patience when searching for the desired object.
In addition to labeling the individual boxes, you can, for example, also attach a list of the items in the storage box to the inside of your storage box door.
Tip 3: Always clean furniture and goods beforehand!
In order not to be annoyed by dirty furniture when clearing out your self-storage box, it is advisable to thoroughly clean the items to be stored before putting them away.
Tip 4: Useful putting away!
What you certainly don’t want is clearing and emptying your storage room several times just because you’ve put the item you need in the box in the back corner.
It is best to pack the items that are to be stored in the storage room in advance, sorted by topic, in the appropriate boxes and arrange them in order of importance when clearing your storage room. The boxes that will definitely not be needed in the near future go at the very back and those that you need more often come at the front.
A little tip on the side – leave some space to the wall! In this way you avoid towers of boxes collapsing because, for example, the neighbor pressed too hard against the wall when clearing his own storage room and at the same time ensure good air circulation.
And while we’ve already talked about leaving room, don’t forget to leave a small passage in the middle to get to the back crates! If this is not possible for reasons of space, there is also a valuable tip here: Simply place the boxes in the middle on small trolleys, so you can simply slide them out of the box if necessary and put them back without any problems after a successful search.
Tip 5: We also pay attention to weight and size in Tetris!
As is well known, stacking is done from the bottom up, so heavy boxes belong on the floor and light ones at the top.
Tip 6: How do I make myself taller?
People who are less than 180 cm tall have the advantage that they hit their heads much less often. But that in turn means you can’t stack very high without outside help. Here our little friend, the ladder, helps. If you don’t have your own to hand, you can borrow one from us in the entrance area.
Tip 7: Dismantle pieces of furniture as much as possible!
Bulky pieces of furniture should be broken down into as many individual parts as possible, because this is the only way to save valuable and usable space.
Tip: With tables, the table legs can often be detached from the tabletop with just a few turns of the screw. Exactly the same thing happens with the bulky sofa. This can usually be broken down into at least two parts and then stacked upside down.
And if it doesn’t go any smaller, the free storage space inside the cupboard can be filled with small items.
Tip 8: You should always have this on hand!
A screwdriver, pliers and various other tools should always be at hand, especially for dismantling pieces of furniture, and not stored at the back of some box.
